| خلاصه مقاله | Introduction: The contribution of Escherichia coli to ulcerative colitis development is still debated. This research focused on identifying the phylogenetic classifications of E. coli strains obtained from Iranian patients with ulcerative colitis, aiming to determine whether any particular group correlates with the intensity of the disease. Materials and methods: Stool samples were collected from 38 Iranian patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Escherichia coli isolates were recovered and classified into phylogenetic groups using multiplex PCR targeting specific genetic markers. Clinical data, including disease severity, were recorded to assess possible associations with phylogenetic groups. Results: This study investigated the phylogenetic distribution of E. coli in Iranian patients with ulcerative colitis. The isolates were classified into groups A (23.7%), B1 (15.8%), B2 (34.2%), and E (10.5%). No statistically significant association was found between these phylogenetic groups and disease severity. These results indicate that although different E. coli phylogenetic groups are present in ulcerative colitis patients, their distribution does not appear to influence the clinical course of the disease. Conclusion: E. coli isolates from Iranian ulcerative colitis patients exhibited varied phylogenetic groups without significant association to clinical severity, highlighting the complexity of their role in the disease. |
