Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease that be able to be transmitted through cosmetic procedures. This study aimed to assess the
relation of genital laser epilation with STD history in people contracted with HPV.
Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 429 people (220 women and 209 men) with HPV from Sep 15, 2023, to Apr 30, 2024, in the Hospitals of Tabriz, Iran. Data was randomly collected through a questionnaire. The data collection instruments included the researcher making questionnaires (Genital Laser Epilation: no, laser, epilation, both; STD history: yes, no). The collected data were entered into SPSS 27 software and analyzed using Pearson's and chi-square at a significant level of P<0.01.
Results: In this study, 33.6% females and 4.4% males used the genital laser. Also, 21.2% females and 3.8% males had STDs. The findings revealed a significant relationship between genital laser epilation with STD history (x2: 17.77, df: 2, p: 0.009). According to Cramer’s correlation value (v: 0.148), their correlation was moderate.
Conclusion: According to the study findings, despite the relation of genital laser epilation with STD history in people contracted with HPV, their associations were moderate. Maybe other reasons under it can exaggerate the STDs of people who contracted HPV.
