| خلاصه مقاله | Acute kidney injury (AKI) may lead to the occurrence of oxidative stress in distant organs, such as the heart. This study aimed at investigating the antioxidative effects of Edaravone on cardiac tissue following renal ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury. Methods. Male Wistar rats (n= 24) were randomly assigned to the IR+Edaravone, Edaravone, IR, and sham groups. Edaravone (3 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally thirty minutes prior to the initiation of IR. Biochemical assessments were carried out on samples of cardiac tissue. Results. The findings demonstrated a significant rise in the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) enzymes, as well as in the levels of GSH (glutathione), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) (p ≤ 0.03) in the IR + Edaravone pretreatment group compared to the IR group. Moreover, SOD activity, TAC, and GSH concentrations in the cardiac tissue displayed an increase in the Edaravone group when juxtaposed with the control and IR groups (p < 0.01). Conclusion. The administration of a single dose of Edaravone via intraperitoneal route was effective in enhancing the antioxidant activity in the cardiac tissue following renal IR in rats. Nonetheless, further research is crucial to elucidate additional molecular mechanisms of Edaravone in the cardiac tissue. |
