Abstract:
Background: Integrating interactive logbooks in nursing education enhances student
engagement by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.
Aim: This study evaluates the effectiveness of interactive logbooks in improving nursing
diagnostic competencies in burn care, utilizing the 'Coming Back to Existence Caring'
model.
Methods: This ongoing qualitative study, initiated in September 2014, employs a mixed-
methods approach. A nursing plan based on the 'Coming Back to Existence Caring Model'
was incorporated into the BS nursing curriculum. the burn patient care logbook was piloted
for two years and refined based on feedback. Nursing students completed logbook during
internships at Sina Hospital in Tabriz, with effectiveness assessed by analyzing 66 logbooks
from the 2017–2018 academic year.
Results: Implementing interactive logbooks significantly enhanced students' diagnostic
competencies, particularly in recognizing burn-related conditions like infection risk and
pain. Reflective practice improved critical thinking and clinical decision-making. During the
second semester, wound evaluations and patient mobility assessments improved after an
initial decline. Infection risk was the most common nursing diagnosis, and patient health
understanding rose from 51.4% to 83.9%. Increases in nutritional diagnoses and nausea
were noted. Fatigue was common in the first semes |
