| خلاصه مقاله | Seizure in patient with MS and treatment strategy Saeid Charsouei ,Associate Prof. of Neurology,Epilepsy Fellowship, Tabriz university of medical sciences While they occur in only a minority of patients with MS, epileptic seizures can have serious consequences. The treatment of MS can be epileptogenic, and antiepileptic treatment can conversely worsen the symptoms of MS. The risk of epilepsy in patients with multiple sclerosis is 3 to 6 times higher than the healthy population. cortical and subcortical lesions as well as surrounding oedema in MS may play an epileptogenic role. In a study RRMS patients with active epilepsy had more likely converted to SPMS than patients without active epilepsy. Typically the new AEDs are all a viable therapeutic option for which the antiepileptic therapy in patients with multiple sclerosis does not involve particular difficulties. Patients with a high load of cortical and subcortical lesions in MRI should be excluded from drug trials with remedies having a known potential to lower the seizure threshold . Often critical episodes individual or isolated in time require no antiepileptic treatment. However the risk of status epilepticus in patients with late-onset epilepsy and EEG abnormalities recommend the use of specific therapy. |
