| خلاصه مقاله | Abstract Introduction: Multiple leiomyomas of the esophagus are rare disease with incidence rate less than 4% of benign esophageal lesions. Multiple leiomyomas are different from diffuse esophageal leiomyomatosis. In the current study we present a case report with symptomatic multiple leiomyoma extended on mid thoracic, lower third of esophagus and the cardia and protruded into the stomach. Case presentation: An 18-year-old woman was admitted with two years history of severe progressive dysphagia, intermittent nocturnal aspirations and weight loss. Esophagoscopy showed a large mass in the mid thoracic esophagus with normal mucosa. CT scan revealed a large size leiomyoma compressing trachea, left and right bronchi. Other isolated leiomyomas were found in the lower third of esophagus protruding into the stomach. Hybrid esophagectomy was performed while thoracic esophagus was resected thoracoscopically. The patient tolerated the surgical procedure well and discharged from the hospital on the 7th day on a regular diet. Conclusion: Multiple leiomyomas are an uncommon condition that typically occur in young patients. Esophagectomy with gastric transposition or colon interposition is the mainstay of treatment with low rates of mortality. |
