| خلاصه مقاله | Introduction: Individualized Care is one of the approaches that has attracted a lot of attention in health policies in recent years. To provide individualized care, that is designed and implemented based on the needs, beliefs, values, feelings, thoughts, experiences, and perceptions of each patient, also it is suggested that patient education be presented individually. The purpose of this review is to investigate the effect of individualized education in patients with chronic diseases.
Search Method: The current integrated review was carried out in five steps, including identifying research questions and studies, study selection, tabulating the data, summarizing, and reporting the results. Four databases including SID, Magiran, Scopus, PubMed and Google Scholar search engine were searched using the following keywords: “Individualized Education”, “Chronic diseases”, their synonyms, and combinations. Finally, English or Persian articles related to the individualized education in patients with chronic diseases, that were published from 2013 to 2022 and their full text was available were retrieved. Oppositely protocols were excluded.
Results: After reviewing the articles in the terms of inclusion criteria, finally 11 relevant articles were included. The findings showed that the most important effects of individualized education were categorized into three categories: 1. Physical: including reduction of pain, nausea, and hospitalization; 2. Psychological: including reduction of anxiety, depression, and delirium; 3. Behavioral: Including improving self-management behavior and quality of life, adherence to disease management and self-care.
Conclusion: Individualized patient education is more effective than group or routine education in patients with chronic disease. Also, based on the positive consequences of individualized education, it is recommended that patient education be provided in an individualized manner, taking into account different characteristics of patients. |
