| خلاصه مقاله | Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global leading public health issue, especially in low and middle-income countries. Vaccine hesitancy can result in reducing the coverage of mass vaccination programs. Many researches proposed the smoking to be a main risk factor for COVID-19 morbidity and mortality. However, it is less analyzed if the smokers are fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines. We aimed to accumulate the current evidences about the of COVID-19 vaccination acceptance among the smokers compared to the non-smokers in Iran. Methods: In this rapid systematic review, we searched the PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar without having time limitation to obtain the studies based on the objectives of this review. No criteria to assess the quality of the studies were used. Results: The search revealed studies with different designs. The number of studies that has investigated this topic was limited to 4 studies. The analysis of studies showed different results in different regions of the country. In one study smokers were more likely to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 than non-smokers. In three studies the smoking status had non-significant relationship with vaccination acceptance. In none of the included studies the relationship was analyzed in multivariate model to consider other covariates. Conclusions: It seems that the smokers are less likely to accept the COVID-19 vaccine than the non-smokers, in spite of the fact that smoking raise the morbidity and mortality of the COVID-19. This paradox is an important issue in many other behaviors. Vaccine acceptance is a multifactorial phenomenon and multiple confounding factors should be considered in interpreting this relationship. This may be justified with the lower socio-economic status of the majority of smokers, the negative attitude of smokers for health services, the lower perceived risk of getting the disease, the shortage of suitable vaccination encouraging messages for this group, or the higher potential for acting risky practices. |
