| خلاصه مقاله | Botulinum toxin (BTx) is produced by the anaerobic, spore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium, Clostridium botulinum which is present abundantly in the soil. BTx contains a 150 kD neurotoxin completed with up to six additional proteins. (hemagglutinin) There are seven immunologically distinct serotypes of botulinum toxin (A to G), of which types A and B are used clinically. Of these, only Type A is used for cosmetic indications. Botulinum toxin type A is a very potent neurotoxin which inhibits the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction resulting in partial paralysis of the muscles. Over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of formulations of botulinum toxin type A. Every physician should be well-versed with correct scientific data about the product being used and side effects. Varieties are Botox (Ireland), Dysport (UK), Xeomin (Germany), Neuronox and Siax (korea) |
