| Endometrial Carcinoma (EC) is an abnormal growth of endometrium. As EC represents poor clinical prognosis in elderly patients, and elevated levels of life expectancy in Iran, in this study the assessment of demographic features of Iranian elderly EC-affected women seems necessary. In this study, we aimed to analyze the demographic characteristics, primary presentation, survival rate and general approaches of EC in elderly women referred to the Al-Zahra Oncology Clinic (Tabriz, Iran) in 2010-2020. Inclusion criteria were patients aged ≥ 65 years with a definitive diagnosis of EC. Patient`s age, age at menopause, chief complications (CC), past medical history (PMH), serum levels of CA125, endometrial thickness (ET), histopathological EC features, EC stages, post-surgical follow-up, body mass index (BMI), and myometrial invasion were also recorded. Following statistical analysis (SPSS v. 16), the tests of Chi-square or Fisher's exact, Student or Mann-Whitney, Kaplan-Meier method, and log-rank (for comparison between survival rates) were used. Mean age of EC was 72.25 years, and EC prevalence mostly occurred in the age range of 65-70. Mean ET was 12.6 mm. The highest rate of PMH was seen in hypertension (HTN). In all cases, the CA125 elevated levels and obesity were found. PMB was also detected as common CC. All patients underwent an abdominal hysterectomy, and 80.5% of cases represented endometrioid carcinoma. In Iranian EC patients, the age range of 65-70, HTN, CA125, increased level of ET, and obesity were defined as risk factors. Besides, the survival rate was not lower in elderly patients than in younger ones. |
