| خلاصه مقاله | Objectives: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with a wide range of symptoms and severity. Detecting changes in hematological biomarkers in COVID-19 patients can aid in predicting disease severity and implementing early management strategies in high-risk patients. Methods: In order to develop an effective COVID-19 diagnostic and prognostic factor, we searched “Blood Cell Count” and “COVID-19” keywords in PubMed and Google Scholar, SID, and Irandoc for articles documenting changes in haematological parameters in COVID-19 patients. Results: Changes in red blood cell(RBC), white blood cell(WBC) and platelet(PLT) counts are associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection and correlate with disease severity. Severely ill patients were found to have lower RBC and PLT counts as well as high neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) due to neutrophilia with lymphocytopenia existence. Conclusions: In COVID-19 patients complete blood count(CBC) is a rapid and cost effective test for tracking numerical changes of blood cells indicating a prognosis of the disease. |
