| Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are two most frequent types of degenerative joint diseases in adults. OA and RA have numerous common symptoms, however, there are dissimilarities in pathological manifestations in the synovial between these diseases. Biomarkers could detect the development of joint disease at the initial stages and will advantage patients that may eventually continue to develop RA and OA. Detection of disease biomarkers with sensitive and accurate methods is important for attaining prompt and consistent clinical diagnosis. A biosensor based diagnostic technology with high sensitivity and reliability promises to quick and in real-time monitoring of joint health. This paper reviews the routine and new material based biosensors described in the literature for the detection of relevant biomarkers of two major types of joint diseases. |
