| Avicenna’s [2,3] great medical manuscript, Qanun-fi-al-
Tibb (The Canon of Medicine)that translated in Latin by Gerard
of Cremona in the 12th century AD became a main reference
work for medicine in Western countries until the 16th century
[4]. The book is divided into five volumes on medical science,
neuroscience being described in the third volume. The chapter
begins by explaining the structure and function of the nervous
system, viz. parts of the brain, the spinal cord, and ventricles.
Avicenna explains brain ventricles as follows:
’’There are three ventricles in the brain–in length (vertical)–
and each one of these ventricles has two halves in width
(horizontal). |
