| The interesting article by Stey et al 1 focuses on hypotheses about how care decisions are made among interdisciplinary providers caring for patients who have been critically injured. Because injuries occur accidentally and unexpectedly, care decisions, particularly in remote areas, can play an important role in saving patients who are severely injured. 2 Life-threatening emergencies are a major challenge that can affect the outcomes of prehospital mortality and morbidity; therefore, management of potential life-threatening emergencies requires how care decisions are made among interdisciplinary providers who deliver basic emergency care to patients with serious injury. 3 , 4 We would like to extend their results and stress some specific aspects that guide care decisions among interdisciplinary providers caring for critically injured patients. We also present a new approach to how care decisions are made among interdisciplinary providers caring for critically injured patients through using literature review. This interprofessionalism approach to shared decision-making can be helpful in caring and treating patients who are severely injured. |
