خلاصه مقالهBackground;Community-based participatory research (CBPR) is a partnership approach to research that involves, community members, organizational representatives, and researchers in which all partners contribute expertise and share decision making and ownership.In this project we aimed to develop the knowledge and skills of community participation among medical students in order to find and analyse and solve health problem of rural area in North-West of Iran. Method:In this project we hold a 2 days workshop for 6th year medical students to explain the steps health interventions. Approach to community health problems was compared to clinical approach by comparing clinical history and physical exam with community assessment and brain storming of community representatives, differential diagnosis with problem analysis and treatment and follow-up plan with action plan,monitoring and evaluation. Each group was consisted of 4-5 medical stdents. They asked to arrange a meeting in rural health center with different stakeholders : family physician, community health workers, rural council members, community based organization members, religious person in the village, school manager and representatives of women and young people. After the brainstorming and assessment of health data, the problem list was prepared to priority setting by Nominal Group Technique. An action plan with monitoring and evaluation indicators was prepared by the team. Results:Evaluation was by scoring the presentation of each group, observing the process of problem solving in the field by the educational staff, asking the view of students about the program . In two years 16 projects were done. The average score of the projects was 85/100 and 78% of students beleived that this program was helpful and they were satisfied by doing the task. Conclusion: Integrating CBPR in medical education helps to change the attitude of medical students towards root determinants of health and cmmunity health
