| This randomised, double blind study was conducted on 44 subjects with metabolic syndrome (MetS).
Participants were randomly assigned to receive 300 g daily regular yoghurt or 300 g probiotic yoghurt for
8 weeks. Serum lipid profiles, blood pressure, anthropometric measurements, and serum inflammatory
factors were evaluated before and after the intervention. The inflammatory factors, low-density lipoprotein-
cholesterol, total cholesterol, body fat percentage and waist to hip ratio, were not significantly
different within and between the groups after intervention. A significant decrease in weight, body mass
index, waist circumference, hip circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, triglyceride,
and a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were found in probiotic
yoghurt group after intervention compared with baseline. Consuming probiotic yoghurt in MetS patients
did not affect the inflammatory markers and cardiometabolic risk factors significantly. |
