| Ion-gel systems possess many favorable features to apply for the encapsulation, protection, and release of bioactive agents in the pharmaceutical science. The ion-gels can reinforce therapeutically beneficial products of drug delivery, which have extensive clinical use. The present study involves design, characterization, cytotoxicity and drug release of new type of green and non-toxic carrier for sunitinib malate (SUM), containing a natural and therapeutic deep eutectic solvent [choline chloride (ChCl)/ascorbic acid (AA)] and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The chemical structure of the ion-gel is characterized by FT-IR. It has been found that the formulation of drug in ion-gel was stable up to 6 months without any degradation. Also, the effect of pH on the ion-gel formation has been studied and the proper range is pH 1.7 to 3.5. The cytotoxicity results indicates that the DES is non-toxic on the HN-5 cells and creates a green environment for the cells. In the next step, the amount of the released SUM from ion-gel doped with DES has been measured at pHs 1.2, 6.8 and 7.4. The outcomes suggest that this type of ion-gel is a unique drug delivery system for this anti-cancer drug (SUM). |
