| خلاصه مقاله | Objectives: To evaluate the effect of oral Ceratonia siliqua (Carob) on sperm parameters in idiopathic infertile men.
Methods: fifty idiopathic infertile men were randomized in one of two groups. The first group received Carob powder capsules, 500mg, three times a day for 90 days and the second group received vitamin E capsules the same as intervention group .The primary outcomes were the sperm parameters.
Results: the mean of sperm count increased from 49.08 milion to 60.22 million in the carob group, and from 47.64 million to 58.88 million in the placebo group (aMD) = 1.124 million, 95% CI: -12.892 to 15.141). Within-group analysis of the sperm count showed a significant increase in the Carob group (MD = 11.14 million, 95% CI: 0.76 to 21.51(.The mean percent of sperm motility increased from 45.90% to 52.90% in the carob group, and decreased from 55.23% to 38.10% in the placebo group (aMD = 17.22%, 95% CI: 8.53 to 25.92). Within-group analysis of the sperm motility showed no significant increase in the Carob group (MD = 15.66%, 95% CI: -2.45 to 16.45(. The mean percent of sperm morphology increased from 11.52 % to 67.05 % in the carob group, and increased from 10.20 % to 77.47 % in the placebo group (aMD = -10.88 percent, 95% CI: -22.30 to 0.536). Within-group analysis of the sperm morphology showed significant increase in the both Carob (MD = 55.53 %, 95% CI: 44.85 to 66.22( and vitamin E group (MD = 67.47 %, 95% CI: 63.84 to 71.09(.
Conclusion: The positive effect of Carob capsule in comparison to vitamin E capsule was significant in terms of sperm motility, but not significant for morphology and count. |
