| Temperature and cosolvent are themain parameters to change the aqueous solubility of chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Mathematical models and the parameters of solute and solvents are applied to predict and interpret
their solubilization effects. In this study, the solubility of phenytoin in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP)+watermixtureswas
determined and the generated datawere correlatedwith the Jouyban-Acreemodel and its combination
with Hansen solubility parameters and Abrahamsolvation parameters.Moreover, solubilization ratio of phenytoin
in 10% of various cosolvents showed a considerable increase and a significant correlation between logarithm
of solubilization ratio and hydrogen binding parameters was observed (R2 N 0.9). Despite NMP, temperature
could not significantly increase the solubility of phenytoin in NMP + water mixtures against water. The results
of this study indicated that NMP is a good solubilizing agent for phenytoin and applied mathematical models
could predict solubility of phenytoin with a good accuracy in cosolvent + water mixtures. |
