| Abstract Background: Thecontrolof painintraumaticpatientswithchestinjuryleadingtoribfractureisoneof theprimarygoalsintraumaticpatients.Theefficacyofthethoracicepiduralapproachincomparisonwithotherapproachesforrelievingpost-thoracotomy painisunknown. Thegoalof thepresentstudywastocomparethoracicepiduralanalgesiawithbupivacainealoneandincombinationwithdexmedetomidineinpatientswithmultipleribfractures. Methods: 64traumaticpatientswithmultipleribfractureswereselectedandrandomlyassignedtotwosimilargroups. Forpain relief,athoracicepiduralcatheterwasinsertedtoinfusebupivacainealoneorthecombinationof bupivacaineanddexmedetomidine. Then,werecordedandanalyzedpainscoresandABGchanges. Results: Basedontheresults,thetwoapproachescouldresultinproperanalgesia,butanalgesiawiththecombinationof bupivacaine and dexmedetomidine was significantly improved compared to bupivacaine alone (P < 0.05). In addition, ABG of patients significantlychangedwhenthecombinationof bupivacaineanddexmedetomidinewasusedwithin2to4days(P< 0.05). Conclusions: Theresultsof thepresentstudyshowedthatepiduralinfusionof acombinationof bupivacaineanddexmedetomidinecouldprovidebettercontrolof ribfracturepainintraumaticpatients,andisaproperalternativeforbupivacainealone. |
