A systematic review to clarify the prognostic values of CD44 and CD44+CD24- phenotype in TNBC patients: putting together the pieces of the puzzle?

خلاصه روش اجرا: This study will be conducted under the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. The Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE, and PubMed databases will be systematically searched to obtain the relevant studies. Thus, there is an urgent need to clarify the prognostic role and clinical significance of this phenotype in TNBC patients. |
| اهداف اختصاصی | CD44 might be associated with an inferior prognosis in TNBC patients. CD44 might be associated with advanced tumor stage, tumor grade, and lymphovascular invasion in TNBC patients. CD44+/CD24- might be associated with an inferior prognosis in TNBC patients. -CD44+/CD24- might be associated with advanced tumor stage, tumor grade, metastasis, the development of chemoresistance, and tumor relapse in TNBC patients. |
| چکیده انگلیسی طرح | Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent troublesome cancers among females. The tumor-relapse and chemoresistance has become a worrisome challenge for the current treatment. As a unique population of tumor bulk, cancer stem cells have been implicated in tumor recurrence and drug resistance in various cancers; therefore, targeting these cells might be a promising strategy to overcome chemoresistance and tumor relapse. Initial studies have identified CD44+CD24-/low as a cancer stem cell phenotype; however, clinical studies have reported seemingly controversial results regarding CD44 and CD44+CD24-/low phenotype in determining the prognosis of triple-negative breast cancer patients. Therefore, there is a need to conduct a systematic review to critically review the clinical significance and prognostic values of CD44 and CD44+CD24-/low phenotype in triple-negative breast cancer patients. |
