| Nanoparticle-based formulations for local applications has received remarkable attention in the past decade. The aim of the current review is to evaluate recent progresses around caries-preventive nanofillers added to dental resin composites. According to the reviewed information, nanofillers are able to release calcium and phosphate in the resin composite once the pH is dropped down under invitroconditions, providing caries-inhibiting possessions. Furthermore, incorporation of the antibacterial components into nanofillers has been shown to provide antibacterial capabilities, so decreasing the biofilm colony-forming unit counts, the metabolic activity, and lactic acid production of Streptococcus mutansbiofilms under in vitroconditions. Despite all of the hopeful in vitrotests, the efficiency of nanofiller based approaches for caries therapy still needs validation by clinical studies. |
