خلاصه مقالهPurpose: According to the mechanism of PRT a new technique called Manual Passive Muscle Shortening (MPMS) was purposed in which origin and insertion of the involved muscle is approximated by the hands of therapist and this shortened position is held for 90 seconds. One of the advantages of this modified technique compared to PRT is lesser fatigue of therapist, because there is no need to move the whole limb for achieving the position of greatest comfort. This technique can be easily applied to small and superficial muscles. Therefore, the research question of this trial was: Is the new suggested technique (MPMS) an effective treatment for treating upper trapezius latent MTrp? Method: Every participant received three treatment sessions in three consecutive days. For MPMS technique, the contributor was in a prone position with cervical spine in a neutral position and therapist standing on the affected side. Origin and insertion of the upper trapezius muscle (base of neck and acromion process of scapula bone) were approximated by the web of therapist's hands and this position was held for 90 seconds. The technique was repeated three times with one minute intervals. Result: At follow up session results of repeated-measures test indicated a significant increase in mean PPT. Mean VAS decreased significantly at follow up. Discussion: Participants showed significant decrease in pain and increase in PPT statistically significant. As the results of this study indicate, MPMS has beneficial effects on upper trapezius MTrP, sometimes even better than PRT. Relaxation of the patient is a basic element for reaching the ideal position of comfort which is the final goal of PRT and Every participant received three treatment sessions in three consecutive days.
