| We studied the article of Uppot et al. [1] with great interest. In our experience, there is a considerable mismatch between pathologic findings and clinical outcome in patients with kidney disease. We believe that renal involvement in most cases is not homogeneous, and small renal biopsy samples cannot represent the true condition of the kidney. In fact, “?12% of the biopsies did not shed light on the diagnosis and were unhelpful in patient management, another ~11% were nondiagnostic, and an additional 1.5% failed to yield enough tissue for examination” [2]. Myriad cases involve significant discrepancies between renal pathology findings and renal outcome. |
