| Extracellular domains of M2 (M2e) and HA2 subunit of hemagglutinin (HA) have conserved epitopes in human and avian influenza A viruses which could be used in influenza A vaccines. We describe hybrid phage displaying the epitopes of SLLTEVET and GLFGAIAGF for inducing immune protective responses against H9N2 influenza infection in BALB/c mice. The recombinant M13 phage elicited a high immune response in mice and decreased virus shedding of virus particles in their lungs following intranasal challenge with live H9N2 virus. A higher viral shedding occurred in lungs of non-immunized control mice. The findings suggest that the hybrid phage should be tested in an influenza vaccine. |
